Peek

Hello and welcome back to Team Tuesday! Today we are headed north to Canada to meet Kia Clapper-Gibson. If you were at Creativation, you met this funny and talented lady, who told us after about three days of us pronouncing her name wrong that you actually pronounce it KAI. We were pronouncing it KEE-YA. We probably started getting it right the day we left! Kia has a wonderful clean and colorful style, and we just love her work and her sweet spirit.

Here she is in her own words.

Hello everyone! I am Kia Gibson-Clapper, (legal name Karen, I am called Kia). I have always enjoyed having hobbies, and cannot imagine my life without one. I sew for my home, and I am a quilter, and in the past, I have sold my wares at craft shows. I became a card maker about 11 years ago, by accident really. I started first with scrapbooking, but was not fond of that so in order to use up my paper I started making cards. I became hooked before long, and to this day I love this art form. Over the years I have tried many techniques and styles. My niche has become Clean and Simple Cards, and there I remain, however I have been known to stray from time to time. To add to my techniques, I started taking watercolour classes 18 months ago, and love using this medium on my cards. I am on a few design teams, that I very much enjoy and also keep me busy along with my blog www.aplaceforkia.blogspot.ca . I feel incredibly lucky to be included with My Sweet Petunia’s Design Team, a group of wonderful ladies I was recently fortunate enough to meet.

Hello everyone. I have a few ways that I use my Misti's to share with you today.
One of the main uses is for stamping. The ability to ink an image as many times as needed has saved much frustration for me.
I inked this image up in my Mini Misti, and set it up for die cutting, which is great for the perfect die cut.
Once I have die cut my image I put it back in the negative to colour, which is what I have done here, using Zig Brushes.
Another handy use is to set up my stencils for inking inside my original Misti. I previously used the round magnets for this, but the new Creative Corners makes this easy.
I used my Clarity Brush to stencil the lattice design on the front of my card.
Once that is done I put my card back in my Mini Misti and line up where I want the sentiment to go. In this case I wanted the sentiment across the lattice line and just under the lattice line.
In this card I stamped a different sentiment in a different place. Once I did the sentiment I styled the teapot slightly and attached on foam dots, then added either sequins or matte sprinkles to finish.
Clearly, I had some fun making these cards. I did orange backgrounds, along with the green and a yellow background, painting each teapot differently.

Products used: Your Next Stamp Love Birds, Zig Brushes, Memory Box Lattice Stencil, Tim Holtz Distress Inks for backgrounds, Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink, Neenah Cardstock, Sequins, Sprinkles.

  7. Oh, Kia! I love this post and also have been pronouncing your name incorrectly. But from now on...hehe! I love your beautiful photo and face! How darling you are. And I loved the tutorial and your great step-outs. Love the darling teacups with the precious birds, and what a beautiful way to add something extra with the stenciling. I do still have Clarity brushes on my wishlist, so perhaps one day. Thanks for a great tutorial! Hugs and love! xoxo
