Team Tuesday with Ceal

It's Ceal, here for  another edition of Team Tuesday. 

Today I am sharing a vintage Valentines card using some Wplus9 products. 

To create this card I started with a watercolor paper card base and a panel of watercolor paper. I placed the card base in the Original Misti and stamped script  using Old Gold ink. I also added some splatter stamped with Old Gold as well.

 I stamped the floral and butterfly images with Versafine Nocturne ink on the watercolor panel and painted  them using Daniel Smith watercolors. Next I cut them out using the coordinating dies. I inked around the edges of the sentiment with Old Gold as well to tie it in.

MISTI and the Cut Up Bouquet

 Hi, Susan here on the blog with this card featuring products from WPlus9 Designs and my MISTI, of course! Without my MISTI, the card would have been impossible because I needed to stamp multiple times onto textured watercolor paper and to help with lining up images and items. 

For the main image I used Kind Soul stamped onto Arches 140lb cold press watercolor paper using Fade Out Ink from InkOn3. I did use my MISTI to stamp this about 4 times before my old eyes could see the image enough to paint! I then pulled out my Daniel Smith watercolors and my DaVinci Cosmotop Rounds #4 and #6. Once I felt it was complete, I tried to fit the bouquet as a whole on some sort of interesting background. That wasn't going to happen. So after about 4 hours of painting not including drying time, I cut the bouquet!!!! This allowed me to strategically place each section. I did allow the leaves and blooms to hang off the edges of the card as I will be delivering this card in person.

For the background I used Vintage Script after I had distressed a piece of watercolor paper with Distress Oxides and water splats. The frame was die cut using Postage Layers die set and then a rectangle from Hero Arts Infinity Rectangles. The sentiment is from Flora and Fauna 3.

Bees, Cosmos and a Butterfly

This is Susan on the blog today. I needed to make a very special birthday card for a dear young woman. She is expecting her fourth child so I needed to knock this out of the park. The pink butterfly represents their daughter and the 3 bees are their sons. The third bee, who is not quite here yet, is just tucked under the large "mama" flower. As you can see on the detail shot, I used a lot of 3M Foam tape.

I got out my standard sized MISTI and stamped out WPlus9 Designs Flora and Fauna 3 onto Arches 140 lb cold pressed water color paper. The MISTI is great for water color paper as I often have to stamp 3 times to get the image fully stamped. The MISTI keeps everything lined up until I am done with the stamping. I wanted a no-line look so I used InkOn3 Fade Out ink. I think used my water color palette to color everything in. Most of my paints are by Daniel Smith. The flower color is mostly Quinacridone Coral.

After I finished all the painting, I used the accompanying dies to die cut all the images out. I stamped the sentiments using my MISTI. I think I used WPlus9 Designs Old Silver for both. I did use the shadow die cut three times for the with love sentiment. I also die cut the WPlus9 Designs Lattice Frame die for the back ground. I mounted everything with 3M Foam tape and added droplets using Gina K Connect Glue.

Springs Blessings - Layered Florals

 

Hi, These sets and dies are older sets from WPlus9 Designs. I am still trying to work through my older stamps and trying to use them. So I pulled out my MISTI and made this for my daughter. The background uses the trellis background die but that is no longer available. I would use The Lawn Fawn Fancy Trellis background die instead or the Honey Bee Garden Trellis Stencil. I carefully placed the stamp on my standard MISTI making sure there were no bubbles left on the MISTI door behind the stamp. I used a bright yellow ink because Spring is such a cheerful time. I  adhered it to a Neenah 110lb notecard.

Next, I die cut the Lavinia Layers die out of Bazzill Vellum and out of Neenah 110lb card stock. I adhered the vellum to the frame die using a liquid adhesive to ensure good bonding. 

I then proceeded to stamp out lots of florals, bird houses and nests from Spring Blessings and The Little Things. Using my MISTI makes stamping extras easier. I keep the extra bits in small containers for future cards. When I do this I sometimes play with different colored inks to see what color combinations work for layering. I die cut everything out using the accompanying die cuts. I stamped the word Spring  and die cut that out as well. 

Using my MISTI and the magnets I arranged everything. I then placed the blessings sentiment on the MISTI door and stamped with Versafine Onyx Black. Because I was using vellum, it was essential to heat set the ink so it would not smear. You could substitute Archival Inks here but those will need to be heat set as well just to be on the safe side. 

Once all of that was done. I used Press N' Seal to keep the arrangement together. This technique is never works perfectly for me so I rely heavily on the MISTI magnets. I use both the bar magnets and the round magnets. I started with adhering the bottom layers flat with liquid adhesive and worked my way up through the arrangement. I did pop up some elements. The Spring die cut is popped up with two layers of foam tape where it is just overhanging the the vellum. I added some clear sequins and called it done!

Using Your MISTI for Stencils

 Hi, Welcome to Team Tuesdays! I had a lot of bits and pieces on my desk so I whipped up this card. However, I had to make a background. I do not like putting Pixie Spray on my stencils as it makes storing the stencils difficult and taping never seems to keep things straight for me. So I thought why not use my MISTI. I have a picture below showing what I did. I do have a Silhouette Cutting Mat in my MISTI and that is sprayed with Pixie Spray. However, what makes this work is the magnetization of the platform.

So here you can see my first stencil not the one that actually made it on the card. My paper is adhered down to the mat and with magnets. I then laid the stencil on top and moved the magnets to adjust for the stencil. This kept everything perfectly aligned and stable. Nothing moved and I had no blobs of ink! So I will be using this from now on for stenciling especially with fine detailed stencils.

Quick and Easy Florals with Susan

This card and the inspiration for it were from Facebook Lives by Dawn Woleslagle of WPlus 9 Designs. You can find her group here.  This card has lots of layers as I was CASEing a card by Dawn. Most importantly, what I learned during that class was another way to make a lot of die cut florals quickly.

I first made a 6x6 panel of ink smooshing with various similarly colored Distress Oxides or Hero Arts Reactive Inks. I used Vicki Bouton's Foundations paper for all of these panels. I was careful to leave some areas of the paper white or with little to no ink. 

Above you can see that I laid out each of the florals I was using on my new MISTI. I stamped all the florals and sentiments in Versafine Onyx Black. You absolutely need a MISTI for this production line of florals as I call it. Also note that the large floral is over top both a colored area and a white area.

I also stamped the same images onto a sheet of plain Foundations paper. Below is an example of the finished florals. 

It was amazing how many florals I could make in one stamping and die cutting session. With the MISTI I was blazing along with this technique. In the picture below you can see that I have even have enough left over to make 2 additional cards.

Using the MISTI for Layered Florals using W Plus 9 Designs Poinsettia Builder

 

Hi, This is Susan up for Team Tuesdays! I have been spending most every Tuesday and Thursday evenings watching Facebook Lives from Dawn Woleslage from WPlus9 Designs. Her group can be found here. I have learned a lot watching the lives and she has a technique for making a jig for layered florals or other images - here. I was doubtful when I started making them but wow it is a game changer!!! I can die cut and stamp so much at one time now. I think in one stamping session I stamped 20 poinsettias and 10 bows and bells!!! That is pretty much a record for me.

To make and use the jigs you MUST HAVE A MISTI. There is no other way to make the jigs and use them properly. I have a picture below which shows my messy jig and my dirty MISTI but both were very busy in the craft room. For each image, I counted the number of layers and die cut that many. I trimmed out the negative images. I then followed Dawn's tutorial. To use the jig just move the die cut through the negative images until you are finished the stamping all the layers. You can see a the final silver bell on the far right.

Colors: 

Reds: Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide, Candied Apple Distress Oxide, Fired Brick, smidge of Black Soot with a dauber

Greens: Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide and Peeled Paint 

Boughs: Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide and Pine Needles Distress Ink

Silver: White Pigment ink daubed with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide, Black Soot Distress Oxide, Black Soot Distress Ink

Browns: Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide and Walnut Stain

The background is a mixed media piece using a technique from Lydia Fielder. I applied grey acrylic paint to Neenah 110 lb card stock and let it dry. I then applied a thick layer of Elmer's Glue - yes the stuff we used in school. I allowed this to air dry until tacky. I then applied a layer of white chalk paint. I left this out overnight and probably longer to dry. As it dried the cracks formed making it look like birch bark. I decided though that birch bark was boring. I added splatters of Black Soot Distress Oxide. Then I squeezed some Versamark reinker out onto my craft mat and used a brush to apply dots of ink around the background. I added Wow Metallic Platinum embossing powder and heat embossed. I also heat embossed the edges. Finally, I added some thin layers of Black Soot using a dauber. To add some sparkle to the bough, I added matte medium and Rock Candy Distress Glitter.
