Sketch 1 -Pink Christmas

I ordered a bunch of stamps to make Christmas cards.  I need to start now so that I have time to use them all.  As soon as my box arrived, I started sketching my idea.  This is a ridiculously simple sketch.

The squiggles can be watercolor, paint, or pattern paper.  I have several videos lined up with this no brainer of a sketch.
This card was definitely out of my comfort zone.  I do not like my hands to get dirty.  There was a lot of panic in this background.  My heart was racing just a little.  The lack of control is what bothers me.  In actuality, I am in denial that I have control.  I really don't have control, I just pretend I do.

I used Mama Elephant's Peace on Earth for the sentiment. For ink I used Rich Razzleberry, Blackberry Bliss, Melon Mambo, and Versamark.  The white splotches were made with gesso.  I used silver embossing powder from Michael's but any silver would do.  Thanks for stopping by and more cards to follow with sketch 1.

  1. Beautiful cards. You should have not cut out the comedy section. I could have used a good laugh today.
    Have a creative day.

    1. What you missed was my desperate attempt to sop up the mess with a Swiffer duster. It does not absorb well.

  2. I actually liked all three cards. The white snowflakes were a bit too large, maybe, but background and sentiment were perfectly OK to me. I even liked the silver embossing on the edges, that is something I don't do often because I don't usually like the result.

  3. BEAUTIFUL cards - LOVE your background!!!
I confess, I STRUGGLE with inky fingers and I am ALWAYS in AWE of crafters who can MAKE MAGIC happen like you have done with the backgrounds!!!
THANK YOU for sharing your "real" video with us - I always feel like a failure when things don't turn out like I think they should, so I appreciate how you shared your ideas on recovery with your last card - I PROMISE to be more ADVENTUROUS this weekend :)

    1. Sometimes those crafters make it so easy. I am the duck, calm on top and then paddling like crazy underneath. I like showing the mess ups because I know others struggle too and I think it makes us all feel human.

    1. Yeah, I forget to surrender to all things. God reminds me of that quite often.

  6. Too funny... I don't mind making a mess but I do like to control the end results a little (I need to get over that!). I did a pretty fall leaf background and embossed first and then added the watercolor mix. For some reason that seems to work better for me - maybe I just can visualize it better that way? Thanks for the video!

    1. I think I will try that! Do you mind?

    2. Yes, do try it and let me know. I'm creative but not an artist so I think it helped me visualize the color scheme (but don't forget to mirror image your stamp colors - similar to what you did in your background stamp post). Once I dragged the watercolor paper through the mix, I heat dried it and then went back in with my paint brush and tap, tap, tapped additional color (mixed with water) into places that needed some more love. The additional water left waterstains that gives me the impression of veins in a leaf. I'm just a beginner but I think it turned out rather lovely. :-) Thanks again for your inspiration!

  8. I don't think it is ugly, I like it! I think you should go ahead and put it on a card base. The added snowflakes really made it come to life, and I am liking the water drops on it. Beautiful colors as well. Hugs, Brenda

  10. I actually like the one best you liked the least - LOL! Remember, it is all good and your hands will eventually be pretty again!

    1. Good point. Some one should invent pretty rubber gloves like the nail wraps.
