Hello friends! Late winter to early spring where I live tends to be quite wet (that freezes to ice at night) and windy, and sometimes I’d rather curl up by my fireplace to paint than face the weather to get to my art studio. However, staying by the fireplace means working with limited supplies… That’s why I’m loving the new MISTI Lite and Petunia Platform!

To start, I taped my Arches Cold Press watercolor paper to the Petunia Platform. Taping the edges of the paper down will help decrease warping while I’m painting. The grid on the platform makes getting perfectly straight and even borders super easy! I then used the MISTI Lite to stamp a flower from Gina K Designs Just Because I Love you set using Inkon3 Fadeout ink.  Stamping on textured watercolor paper generally requires stamping more than once to get a good impression. The MISTI Lite makes this not only possible, but easy even when I’m not in my studio.  

When using the Petunia Platform and MISTI Lite, I can keep my paper in place and just start painting after I’ve stamped my image, which is really nice! Here I’ve used a couple different colors to create a soft mottled background by first brushing clean water over the whole paper, then randomly applying some paint. It doesn’t need to be pretty, just nice and soft to give interest to the background. Make sure to keep the background light so you can paint your flower over the background.

After the background is dry, I paint my flower. I used 2 different purples for the petals- one that leans blue, and one that leans red. The differences in color temperatures creates some interesting contrast. 

After painting the flower, I decided to add some “frost” to the edges of the leaves and petals using Recollections White Shimmer Powder mixed with a little water. This creates a shimmer paint where you get to control how shimmery it is by adding more or less water to the powder.

I also decided to add in some rain drops (inspired by the weather outside). To do this, I added some random drops of water to the flower and leaves, waited a minute, then dabbed the water off with a paper towel. This lifts some of the paint leaving a lighter circle. I then added in a shadow at the base of each light area using the shadow color of the petal or leaf, and a highlight opposite of the shadow using a white Posca paint marker. Quick and easy water drops!

To finish the card front, I added a doodle border along where the tape was using a Sharpie fine tip pen, then used my MISTI Light to stamp my sentiment (from Brass and Bliss Hellebore Floral set) using Inkon3 Blackout ink.

The final step is to glue the card front to a card base.  

While this only uses a few stamps, ink and paint, I love the result! For me, painting is relaxing, but you could create your own version of this card using whatever you favorite coloring medium is!

Focus Friday - with Ceal Pritchett

Hello crafty friends!

 

It’s Ceal here for Focus Friday. Today I am sharing a helpful way to watercolor your images using the Petunia Platform.

I started out by using the Mini Misti to stamp the image because when you stamp on textured watercolor paper it is hard to get a clean image unless you use the Misti of course.

After I stamped my image, I placed it down on the Petunia Platform and held it with the Power Mag so I could paint it without it moving around.

The Petunia Platform is also great to have to use a palette for your watercolors because cleanup is so easy.

 

The set I used is a new release from Dare 2B Artzy “Let Hope Bloom” I water colored the image using Distress Reinkers and then cut it out with the coordinating die. I create a subtle background for the image using the Lacy Leaves stencil also by Dare 2B Artzy.

Team Tuesday - with Fabiola Giardinaro

Team Tuesday is all about celebrating creativity, and today we’re delighted to share a project that captures the joy of handmade storytelling. Fabiola brings her signature love of coloring to a charming card that feels like a snapshot of friendship—playful, heartfelt, and full of personality. 

With thoughtfully layered images, beautifully balanced color, and clever use of tools and dies, this design shows how a creative idea can come together seamlessly from start to finish. It’s the kind of project that reminds us why we love making cards and sharing them with the people who matter most.

Hello creative friends! Fabiola here, with a new project using my MISTI.

Being a color card maker, I offer you a card with coloring of course, which is what I love to do.

I stamped the Sweet November Stamps with Misti, choosing characters based on the idea I have in mind, which is a polaroid between friends. Then stamp flat by overlaying the stamps and using the moulding mask.

Then I colored with my markers with a balance of colors.

Then I used dies with the set of Alua Cid, the Polaroid and various embellishments.

The "Friend" sentiment of Impronte d'Autore stamped on the polaroid die-cut.

Then assemble everything and voila... isn't that too nice?

Focus Friday - with Jordan Hansen

Hello and happy Friday! It’s Jordan here from Jordan’s Easy Entertaining and I’m sharing a fun bookish birthday card with you today.  My little guy’s teacher’s birthday was this week, and he was so excited to hear that he could give her a handmade card. Altenew’s Literary Blooms Craft Your Life Project Kit is one of my favorite stamps, stencil, 3D embossing, and die set and I thought it’s perfect for a teacher’s birthday card.

I started by cutting a panel with the largest die from the Spellbinders A-2 Matting Basics A Card Creator Etched Dies in white cardstock.  Then I used my Mini Misti to stamp this open book with flowers stamp using Altenew’s Obsidian Pigment Ink.

I love how I always get a perfect crisp image with any of the MISTI stamping platforms that I happen to use.

 

Then I used the coordinating stencil set to color the image using a variety of Altenew’s Fresh Dye inks. 

Can you see why this is one of my favorite sets? It’s so much fun for book lovers!

I used the 3D embossing folder to add some texture.  It didn’t show up well on camera, but it looks nice in person. I then used my Precision Glue Press to add this cardstock to a pink panel that was cut the same size as my A2 card.

Next, I used my Mini MISTI once again to stamp my happy birthday sentiment with clear embossing ink. I used a gold embossing powder and heat set it before cutting it out with the coordinating die.  Then I added the sentiment to the center of the card.

To finish off the front of the card, I added a few pale pink flatback pearl dots and some clear gems.

The last thing I did to this card was stamp inside using the MISTI Lite and the Petunia Platform.  The message says, “Hope your day is one for the books.”  

My little guy liked how this card turned out and he was so cute signing his name to give to his teacher. I hope she likes it! What do you think?

Hello everyone! Anna here, with greetings from the pacific northwest! 

I used the Mini Misti to stamp the main focal image several times to ensure a great impression on textured watercolor paper. Sentiments were also stamped several times on watercolor paper. Again, I used the Mini Misti to ensure a perfect sentiment for each card. 

The two cards I’m sharing today were made using the Chippy clear stamp set from SweetMissDaisy Designs.  The cards showcase watercolored images, the soft texture of watercolor paper and designer patterned papers, also from SweetMissDaisy Designs. Faux stitching and assorted small embellishments, like vintage buttons, charms, and lace, make for really cute cards! They are perfect for sending love to someone near or far.

I love how the Mini Misti allows me to stamp perfectly, every time! On card panels or on smaller sentiment banners, I can stamp with precision every time, giving me the perfect placement and impression for every project.  Sentiments are stamped perfectly placed, and stamped images on watercolor paper (or other textured papers) are a breeze to create!

Team Tuesday - with Deniz Do

Hi friends! It’s Team Tuesday over at My Sweet Petunia, and today we’re featuring a beautiful clean and simple birthday card by Deniz. Her project highlights how easy it is to create soft texture and elegant dimension using watercolor techniques and the MISTI, proof that simple designs can still feel extra special and thoughtfully detailed.

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing a clean and simple birthday card for my latest project went My Sweet Petunia.

For the background, I used a thick striped background stamp from Hero Arts, inked it up with Distress Oxide ink, generously spritzed it with water, and stamped it onto watercolor paper using my MISTI. I made sure to stamp down several times to get the cool variation of colour and texture on my watercolour panel. I love the soft, organic texture this technique creates!

Once everything was dry, I cut a rectangular opening in the center using Waffle Flower dies. The sweet sentiment and leafy foliage come from several Spellbinders sets. I die cut the foliage from watercolor paper as well and painted them with a mix of green inks for added depth and dimension.

To finish it off, I popped up the front panel with foam tape and tucked the foliage along the bottom of the window for a soft, layered look. Simple, elegant, and perfect for a birthday!
