Team Tuesday with Stephanie - Stencil Masking

Today I'm sharing some cards using my Memory MISTI and products from Gina K. Designs.

But first ... drum roll ... the winner of the $50 My Sweet Petunia Gift Certificate from the My Sweet Petunia and Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Blog Hop is ... Tanya Terrones with this comment

Great masculine feel for the card. I like the texture stamps.
Tanya - e-mail your information to hello@mysweetpetunia.com

Here is the first one featuring a masked stencil technique

I started by cutting one of the Ovals from Gina K. Designs Oval Dies using Gina K. Designs Masking Magic, which has the perfect thickness and adhesive to make this technique flawless.  I find my Memory MISTI to be perfect for techniques like this one.

Next I adhered the mask to my my stone cardstock and then attached the Gina K. Designs Water Droplets Stencil using Pixie Spray (seriously this stuff is magic for stencils).

Next, I pulled out my Life Changing Blender Brush and three shades of Gina K. Designs Dye Ink - Blue Denim, Tranquil Teal & Turquoise Sea

I randomly applied the colors (I just used the same brush for all three) until I got the depth I wanted, then I removed the stencil and then removed the mask.

One more little trick with my MISTI ... I like to use the lines on the mouse pad to help me line-up embellishments like these gorgeous Love from Lizi Peel Off stickers that I added to finish the card.  I lined the largest one on the left line of the black ... the smallest on the right side of the block ... and then positioned the middle side between the two.

The sentiment is from the Gina K. Designs Have Faith Stamp Set stamped in Blue Denim Ink.

I re-used the same Masking Magic Oval for my second card.  It features the same technique, but this time I used Glitter Glitz Gel instead of ink.

Here was the look after removing both the stencil and the mask (I just used the blade of my craft knife to pry it up).  I combined Turquoise Sea and Grass Green Glitz Glitter gels, overlapping them on the corners using the Gina K. Designs Lovely Lace Stencil.

Seriously ... doesn't that gorgeous sparkle make you happy?  Stamped another sentiment from the Gina K. Designs Have Faith Stamp Set in the masked area.

I hope today's tutorial gave you some masking ideas ... I can't wait to see what you create.

Unity Stamps Feather Soft Love

In my head I imagined a very different card when I started.  I must have tried three different techniques before settling on this.  Once I figured it out, it was easy to make.  I love the way the color pops on the black background.

I did not want to have a banner sentiment.  I felt like it detracted from the feather.  The sentiment is on the last chance option on Concord and 9th's website.  So if you want it you better act fast.

Tell me which you like best, the black or gold sentiment.   Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the video.

Team Tuesdays with Susan

Hi,
Susan on the blog today! The reason I chose these three cards for my Team Tuesday post today is that all three cards have stamped images with either very solid areas on them or thick black lines. A MISTI is essential when using stamps like these.

For the first card, I used an image from Trick or Treaters - all of the images in this set have large solid areas. I placed the stamp in my MISTI and used Memento Tuxedo Black ink as this is safe with Copics. To get the best impression, I carefully placed the image on the door of the Misti making sure that the solid areas were adhered to the door without any bubbles between the stamp and the door. I stamped the image 3 times using my regular sized Misti onto Neenah Solar White 80 pound card stock.  I colored the image in with Copic Markers. I die cut Thankfully from black card stock and I cut the shadow from vellum. I stamped the sentiment from Girl Boss onto Neenah Solar White using Hero Arts Pumpkin ink. I did use my Misti and stamped this three times to get a crisp image.

For this card the solid areas areas are smaller but nonetheless they are a very important part of the image. I carefully adhered this to my Misti door and stamped it 3 times with Memento Tuxedo black ink. I used Copic Sketch markers G000, G00 and G02 to color in the dress. I added some colored pencil to the "nooks and crannies". Her hair is E31, E33, E35 and E37 with some colored pencil details. For the background I used Layers of Clouds stencil and my Life Changing Blender Brushes with Distress Oxides Picked Rasperry, Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar. I die cut the trees from Woodsy Forest twice from Neenah Solar White card stock. I adhered this together with some Gina K Designs Connect Glue and then added them to the panel. Then sentiment is from If You Have It Haunt It and I used Memento Tuxedo Black and my Misti.

With illustrative heavy line designs such as this witch from If You Have It Haunt It, I found my Misti to be an integral component for precision stamping. I stamped the witch 4 times in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The background was made using the Funky Rainbow Stencil with my Life Changing Blender Brushes. I used Distress Oxide ink in Abandoned Coral, Carved Pumpkin and Persimmon. I colored in the pumpkin with Copic YR18. I knew I wanted to leave this image as black and white so this is why using my MISTI is so important. The sentiment is from Hey Girl.

Collaboration Blog Hop with Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps

Is there any sweeter image in the world than a shepherd and his flock?

When I saw this stamp set from Sweet 'n Sassy stamps, I knew the answer was a resounding no, because this is pretty much the cutest thing ever.

I stamped the image in Fadeout Ink onto cold-press watercolor paper and then painted it with Daniel Smith watercolor. I had originally had a grand vision of painting plowed fields in the distance, but I lost my nerve after I finished painting the image, because I was afraid I'd ruin it, and I enjoyed painting it so much.

First, I stamped the little lamb at his feet in Fadeout Ink, and then stamped it again on masking paper, and cut out the right side of the image and placed the mask on top of him. Then I stamped the shepherd on top of that image so that it looked like the lamb was resting against his legs on top of his robe.

Then I painted the image with Daniel Smith Watercolor, and on his robe I painted one section at a time so that I could preserve the dimension and shadow in this lovely image. When I was done, I stamped the sentiment from this little greeting set - the font is so clean and you get SO many sentiments at such an economical price. What I love about Korin's stamps is they are overwhelmingly positive and encourage. She's just a great lady, and it's an honor to collaborate with her.
This is what the rest of the set looks like - I love the heart image so much!! Those distant hills are sort of what I had in mind for my background. All the images just squeeze my heart!
